Safe Volunteering

Volunteers can do a range of tasks including shopping and delivering food parcels, collecting and delivering medication or contacting people by telephone to check that they are okay.

The Government has issued guidance for safe volunteering during the lockdown

Some people wishing to volunteer are on waiting lists or unsure of how to become involved. Many local churches get involved through local COVID-19 “Mutual Aid” groups. These are set up across neighbourhoods and actively share news on social media.

Food Banks

The Trussell Trust have issued guidance for those operating foodbanks.

As the coronavirus pandemic unfolds, food banks continue to operate aimed at supporting people who cannot afford the essentials in life. If you cannot afford food, please contact your local food bank using the Food Bank finder using your postcode.

Homeless Link is working to keep the homelessness sector informed about latest developments in relation to Covid-19. They are holding weekly webinars which are open to all, providing an overview of current responses and emerging practice. You can find out more on this link.

Shelter also provides a lot of practical information including dealing with evictions, rent payments, benefits and domestic abuse. More information on this link

Financial Help

The National Debt Line has produced a helpful fact sheet and web page which covers the following topics:

  • Claiming benefits and benefit increases

Corona Virus information in a range of languages

Leeds City Council has produced video resources in Polish, Romanian, Urdu, Arabic, Czech, Punjabi, Tigrinya, Farsi, Slovak, Kurdish Sorani and Bengali.

New funding is becoming available to help charities helping to support communties or struggling with theor own sustainability.

Charities Aid Foundation

This Fund is to help smaller charitable organisations in the UK affected by the impact of Covid-19. Grants of up to £10,000 are available.

Govt. funding for food redistribution organisations across England
